The Earliest Weyerbachers

Records of the earliest Weyerbachers were found in the church records in the state archives in Koblenz, Germany. The story of their discovery was documented by Warren W. Wirebach following his 1973 trip to Germany. The earliest Weyerbacher found is Hans Otto Weyerbacher. The first five generations are shown here.

1-Hans Otto Weyerbacher 1 2 was born about 1640, was christened in 1640, died in 1714 about age 74, and was buried on 14 Oct 1714 in Baumholder.

Hans married Martha 1 2 before 1663 in Baumholder, Germany.1 3 Martha died in 1711 and was buried on 8 Apr 1711 in Baumholder. Another name for Martha was Martina. They had eight children: Hans Wilhelm, Hans Nickel, Maria Ursula, Anna Catharina, Anna Christina, Maria Catharina, Anna Maria, and Johann Anton.

Marriage Notes: Marriage date based on burial of son Hans Wilhelm and reported age of about 62.

2-Hans Wilhelm Weyerbacher 2 3 was born about 1663 in Baumholder3 and was buried on 19 Dec 1725 in Steinberg.3

One will find a lot of information in the Wolfersweiler church books about him, his wife and their offspring. The Wolfersweiler church books are also located in the church archives Koblenz.

From the 10 June 1976 report of Wolfgan Munzert:
In 1716 Hans Wilhelm Weyerbacher still lived in Wolfersweiler. In 1721 he already lived in Steinberg. The death of his wife who is still mentioned as a godmother on March 20, 1707 is not recorded in the Wolfersweiler church book.



Hans married Anna Barbara Wenz 2 on 24 Jan 1690 in Baumholder.,2 daughter of Jacob Wenz and Unknown. Anna was born in Ruschberg and died after 20 Mar 1707 in Wolfsweiler?. Another name for Anna was Anna Barbel Wenz. They had five children: Hans Nickel, Maria Ursula, Eva Elisabetha, Elisabeth Barbel, and Maria Magdalena.

3-Maria Ursula Weyerbacher 2 was born in Baumholder, was christened on 25 Oct 1693, and was buried on 6 Jan 1736 in Rohrbach.3 Another name for Maria was Maria Ursel Weyerbacher.

Maria married Hans Adam Klee 3 on 18 Feb 1721 in Wolfersweiler.,3 son of Nickel Klee Klee and Unknown. Hans was born in Rohrbach and died before 23 Nov 1768 in Eckersweiler?.3

General Notes: From the 10 June 1976 report of Wolfgan Munzert:
Hans Adam Klee lived in Steinberg in 1722, in Richweiler in 1727, in Rohrbach in 173? And 1736, in Eckersweiler in 1759; in 1727 he is listed as Schutze (low military rank such as private; also means rifleman, shooter), in 1759 as Feldschutze. The Wolfersweiler church book does not appear to contain any record of his death. Hans Adam Klee was still alive on April 24, 1759. On November 23, 1768 he was already deceased. On April 24, 1736, Hans Adam Klee married Elisabetha Catharina Metzger in Wolfersweiler (she: + January 12, 1758 at age 47), and on April 24, 1759, in Berschweiler, married Maria Margaretha, widow of the deceased Schuldiener (school custodian?) Wenz Fahr (she: + November 23, 1768).

3-Eva Elisabetha Weyerbacher 2 was born in Ruschberg, was christened on 12 Dec 1695, died in Ruschberg, and was buried on 10 Feb 1696.

3-Elisabeth Barbel Weyerbacher 2 was born in Ruschberg, was christened on 3 Mar 1697, and died after 16 Jan 1724 in Eitzweiler?.3 Another name for Elisabeth was Elisabetha Barbara Weyerbacher.

Elisabeth married Johann Friedrich Forst 3 on 6 Oct 1716 in Wolfersweiler.,3 son of Anton Forst and Unknown. Johann died after 23 Jul 1724.3

General Notes: From the 10 June 1976 report of Wolfgan Munzert:
Johann Friedrich Forst was a miller in 1719 and lived in Eitzweiler. The Wolfersweiler church book contains no entry concerning his or his wife's death. Still alive, however, were: Johann Friedrich Forst on July 23, 1724 (godfather entry), his wife on January 16, 1724 (christening of a child).

2-Hans Nickel Weyerbacher 1 2 was born about 1665 in Baumholder, was christened in 1665, died in 1711 about age 46, and was buried on 12 Mar 1711 in Baumholder.

Hans married Maria Margaretha Fries 1 on 29 Apr 1694 in Baumholder.,1 daughter of Nickel Fries and Maria Barbara Weber. Maria was born in Thallichtenberg, was christened on 19 Jul 1668 in Thallichtenberg,3 and died after 17 Mar 1709 in Baumholder. Another name for Maria was Maria Margreth Fries. They had four children: Hans Nickel, Anna Catharina, Johann Henrich, and Hans Jacob.

Conceivable that she returned to her place of birth Thallichtenberg after her husband's death. Thallichtenberg was part of the church district Pfeffelbach. The church books of this community are also in the church archives in Koblenz.

3-Hans Nickel Weyerbacher 2 was born in 1700 in Baumholder,2 4 5 was christened on 21 Apr 1700 in Baumholder,1 2 6 and died in 1777 in Bucks , PA6 at age 77. Other names for Hans were Johann Nicholas Weyerbacher,7 John Nicholas Wirebach.8

• He emigrated on ship Edinburgh in 1751 from Rotterdam, Holland. 9 He arrived in Philadelphia, PA, with his wife Chrisanne and his 21 year old son Issac. The family settled in Bucks County where they operated a farm.

Hans married Cathrina Magdalena Hermanni 2 7 10 on 18 Jul 1726 in Baumholder, Germany.,2 6 11 daughter of Johann Jacob Hermanni and Maria Magdalena Mettgier. Cathrina was born in 1704 in Baumholder, was christened on 17 Aug 1704, and died in USA. Other names for Cathrina were Chrisanne,8 Catharina Magdalena Hermanni, and12 Maria Catharina Magdalina Hermanni.6 They had nine children: Maria Elizabetha, Isaac, Anna Elisabetha, Johannes, Maria Catharina, Anna Catharina Maria Patienta, Anna Margaretha Friederica, Johann Henrich, and Cathrina Elisabetha Magdalena.

General Notes: Age at death listed as 11 months, 13 days at another part of report. This would put birth at about 6 August 1728.

4-Isaac Weyerbacher 1 2 8 14 was born on 10 Apr 1730 in Baumholder, was christened on 17 Apr 1730, died on 11 Mar 1805 in Springfield Township, Bucks, Pa at age 74, and was buried in Trinity Luthern Church Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Bucks, PA.

Isaac married Anna Elizabeth Frey 1 14 1700s in America.1 Anna was born on 27 Feb 1741 and died on 15 Jan 1838 at age 96. They had seven children: John Jacob, John Henry, Peter, Isaac, Anna Elizabeth, Margaret, and John.

General Notes: Name is spelled "Weierbacher" on tombstone.

5-John Jacob Weierbach 7 15 16 17 18 was born on 8 Nov 1771 in Springfield Township, Bucks, Pa,19 died on 20 Jun 1856 in Lehigh County20 at age 84, and was buried in New Jerusalem (Appel's/Apple's) Church Cemetery, Bethlehem (Leithsville), Northampton, PA.21 Other names for John were Jacob,8 Wirebach,22 Wireback.23 24

General Notes: He had 17 children total with 3 wives. Although 15 of the children are listed in the Waltman paper, it is not clear who the respective mothers were (other than Jacob C. and Hannah).

John married Margaret Wolslayer. Margaret was born on 11 Nov 1786,19 died on 13 Jul 186419 at age 77, and was buried in New Jerusalem (Appel's/Apple's) Church Cemetery, Bethlehem (Leithsville), Northampton, PA.19 Another name for Margaret was Rebecca Woolslicker.18 They had 11 children: Jacob C., Godfrey, William, Samuel, Peter, Israel, Jeremiah, Susanna, Rachael, Charles, and Elizabeth.

John next married Elizabeth Ackerman.18 Another name for Elizabeth is Mary.8 They had one son: (Unknown).

General Notes: Byron Waltman has second wife of John Jacob Weierbach as Elizabeth Eughmy with six children, whereas most other researchers have second wife as Anna Maria Emich or Amey.

Birth date and baptism date are inconsistent.

History of Buck County also indicates six children.

Marriage Notes: Church book of Berschweiler lists marriage on 29 June 1802. Apparently there were two marriage ceremonies.

The date listed for the civil marriage was "19 Prairial," based on a system initiated during the French revolution, which Wolfgang Munzert translated to 8 June 1802.

4-Johann Jacob Weyerbacher 2 was born on 7 Mar 1734 in Baumholder and was christened on 10 Mar 1734.
